By the old harbour · Wrenport
Fourteen sea-facing rooms, a rooftop terrace, and mornings that begin with hand-poured coffee. Maris & Loft is the kind of place you arrive tired and leave slower.
Why guests return
A slow spread of local bread, seasonal fruit, and hand-poured coffee served on the terrace, included with every stay.
Every room opens toward the water. Fall asleep to the harbour bell and wake to gulls, not traffic.
A real front desk, real brass keys, and a concierge who knows the tide charts and the best table in town.
Loft rooms feature cast-iron tubs and locally milled bath oils. The rain, when it comes, is best watched from the water.
A fireside library of well-worn paperbacks, an honesty bar, and armchairs that have hosted a good many afternoons.
Borrow one of our cream cruisers for the coastal path, the lighthouse, or the Saturday market two coves over.
The house
Maris & Loft began as a chandler's warehouse on the working quay, stacking rope and sailcloth for the fleet. When the boats grew scarce, the building waited — until we opened its shutters, kept the beams, and let the light back in.
Today it holds fourteen rooms, no two alike, each finished with linen from the mill up the river and ceramics thrown by a potter three doors down. We kept the parts worth keeping and gently retired the rest.
Where you'll stay
A snug corner room with the original loading beam overhead, a queen bed dressed in river linen, and a window seat made for watching the boats come in.
Our signature room beneath the eaves: a cast-iron soaking tub, skylights that frame the stars, and the widest stretch of sea we have to offer.
A ground-floor suite with its own door to the walled garden, a daybed for a third guest, and morning light that arrives early and stays late.
From the guest book
"We came for two nights and quietly rebooked for a fourth. The Loft's tub, the rooftop coffee, the staff who remembered our names — it undid a whole hard winter."
"Small enough to feel like a friend's house, thoughtful enough to feel like a proper hotel. The concierge sent us to a cove we'd never have found alone."
"We travel a lot and rarely write reviews. This one earned it: the Garden Suite doors opening straight onto the herbs, breakfast that changed daily, no fuss anywhere."
